Description
Villa Tjok is located right on the border between Umalas and Seminyak, so it is only a short drive to the beach of Batubelig or Seminyak. The popular surfer hot sport Canggu is only about 10 minutes away by scooter. The villa offers six identically furnished rooms, with cosy double bed, wardrobe, safety box and TV.
What former students say
3,3· 8 ReviewsSatisfied except for a few points
- Large room and large bathroom, which is well equipped - Praise to manager Made, was always available and dealt with any complaints quickly. - The team on site was always easy to talk to - The rooms on the ground floor cannot be well ventilated and smell musty. There are mould deposits behind the beds - Very disappointed with the semester abroad team. Even if you consider that the staff were absent, they still argued against complaints with the argument "it's worse somewhere else", which is an impossible attitude, but happened again and again. - Manage contract conclusion better
Villa Tjok
At first glance, the villa looks very friendly, the rooms are all large and well equipped, as are the bathrooms. The neighbourhood and the location of the villa is very good, as you can reach all the hotspots quite quickly. However, the best thing was the manager, as he is very helpful and no matter if you had a problem he was immediately on the spot or looked for a solution. Unfortunately, the rooms on the ground floor are difficult to ventilate and therefore smell musty. The electricity is very expensive and you have to make sure that it is always available, which is very stressful. From midday there is no sun on the property because of the high concrete wall. The rooms upstairs are partly leaky. Also not satisfied with the staff, arguing against problems that could be solved with "it's worse in other villas" is not a solution and cheeky.
All-round pleasant stay
At first glance a very nice villa, the rooms are all very spacious, large beds and each has its own bathroom. The location of the villa and the quiet village are also positive. The biggest plus is the management of the villa, who made every effort to solve problems immediately. Unfortunately, the sun only shines in the villa in the mornings and the pool is therefore rarely used. A big minus is given to the rooms downstairs, which smell very musty if not ventilated
Nice Villa with some problems
In total I really like this Villa, but there were some things, that were really annoying about it. Pros: - The rooms of Villa Tjok are honestly the best rooms of all Villas I've seen in Bali. They are big and give a lot of space for everything with big king size beds. - The cleaning guy cleans the rooms three times a week, so that the villa is cleaned most of the time. - Umalas is a really nice region to live. It's more like a street of villas for foreigners. Thus the street is compared to other streets clean, green, quiet and seems more safe. Nevertheless, there are a lot of street dogs even they are peaceful. From The Villa you can reach everythingelse quite fast. Cons: - How someone already told the big wall on the one side of the Villa shields the Outdoor Area, so there is just sun till about 2-3 pm. Positive thing about this is, that the pool always stays cool and refreshing. - Missing common Area. There is no real Area and also no real Table to eat together. The Gazebo is to high, so we nearly didn't use it all. - High costs for laundry and electricity. Since those costs are not included. You'll need about 8€ extra every week for electricity and laundry. - Especially in the rooms downstairs there is a lot of mould. So you have to watch out to open the windows enough, so that the humidity gets not to high. In the rooms upstairs there was nearly no mould. - The owner doesn't care about some problems. Our kitchen roof was broken and about 10 lights werr broken as well. We told him several times, but they didn't fix it. Especially the broken kitchen roof was really annoying. When raining season started, the kitchen floor became very slippery and it was quite dangerous to walk in the kitchen. - There was always shit of bats or geckos on our balconies, so in the dark you had to watch out not to step on it. In total I would still recommend the villa. Especially the rooms were compared to other Villas really nice. We had a cold pool and Umalas is a really nice region to live. But the kitchen and also some other things should be renewed.
Appearances are deceptive
Villa Tjok looked like paradise in the photos. However, it became clear in the first few days that this appearance was deceptive. Negative: - the outdoor area is only affected by the sun in the morning due to the high walls --> the pool is permanently very cold and you are only in the shade and cannot sunbathe - the outdoor area is very narrow and there is hardly any space where you can sit together with your flatmates - the lower three rooms are very badly infested with mould. I was in one of these rooms and the wardrobe for my clothes was also so mouldy that all my clothes couldn't get rid of the smell. With constant ventilation and air conditioning, the air was reasonably clean. When you come back to your room from university at lunchtime, you get a mouldy feeling. - You have to pay extra for cleaning the bed linen and towels. - In our case, the condition of the villa was apparently not checked beforehand, we arrived and had non-functioning air conditioning, lots of cockroaches, broken safety boxes (...) - as the electricity is not included, there are additional costs here, which should not be underestimated depending on the frequency of use of the air conditioning, refrigerators etc.. If the electricity runs out during the night, all electrical appliances are automatically switched off until someone goes to buy a code in a supermarket and recharges the electricity. - If you like long showers, you will have to make do with cold water after about 5-10 minutes, as the hot water runs out after a certain time Positive: - Faults were rectified very quickly - Umalas is a very quiet and beautiful area from where you can reach the hotspots in Bali very quickly. Canggu, Seminyak and Kerobokan are neighbouring regions where you can do a lot and where most of the students are located. - The staff were very friendly, although Bondang, the caretaker for everything, doesn't speak English. - the rooms are very large, the bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is also very large. To summarise: If I were to be in Bali again, I would not choose Villa Tjok as my villa again as there were just too many points of contention. However, I would choose the Umalas region again, which I have a bit of a crush on.
Personal Top - Mould Flop
As the previous speakers have already said, the rooms are nice and big, with plenty of space and a very large bathroom. Unfortunately, we had a lot of problems and a handyman was there almost every week, although it has to be said that everything was always put right very quickly, but it's a shame that this didn't all happen before we moved in. The worst thing is the mould, especially in the rooms downstairs, if you are allergic or react strongly to mould, you should definitely not stay here. The best thing about the villa is the staff are always very friendly and helpful.
