🎓 6–12 months in advance

Laying the foundations

• Choose a study programme
  Which university is right for you? Which courses are recognised? And which provider is the best choice? On our site, you’ll find an overview of the most popular study programmes in Bali, including their differences and unique features.
  
• Clarify the Learning Agreement and credit recognition
  If you want to have courses recognised for credit, you should speak to your university well in advance. Many students use a Learning Agreement or similar recognition processes for this.
  
• Planning your finances
  A semester in Bali is often cheaper than many people think. Nevertheless, you should plan realistically for accommodation, living costs, insurance and leisure activities. We’ll show you exactly how much Bali really costs in our transparent cost overview.
  
• Check eligibility for BAföG abroad
  Many students are eligible – often even if they don’t receive BAföG in Germany. What’s particularly exciting is that tuition fees can be covered either partially or in full.

Making the most important decisions

• Book a flight
  Compare prices early on (e.g. on www.skyscanner.de)
  
• Book your accommodation early
  Especially in popular areas such as Canggu, Uluwatu, Seminyak and Jimbaran ​Good long-term accommodation for students is often snapped up quickly around the start of the academic term.

• Planning your visa
  A standard tourist visa is usually not enough for a semester abroad. On our website, we explain step by step which visas are available to students, what the differences are and what you need to bear in mind.
  
• Take out international health insurance
  If you’re planning to spend several months in Bali, you should definitely take out a good international health insurance policy. Good policies are available from as little as €40 a month.
  
• Vaccinations & medical preparation
  Which vaccinations are recommended for Bali depends, amongst other things, on the length of your stay and your travel plans. It’s best to ask your GP about this.
  
• Organising important documents
  Check your passport, insurance documents, university paperwork and make sure you have digital copies of your most important documents.

• Prepare your packing list
  What should you really bring with you from Germany – and what can you easily get in Bali? That’s exactly why we’ve put together a handy Bali packing list compiled.
  
• Arrange payment methods
  A credit card with no foreign transaction fees can often save you a lot of money. It’s also worth having some cash to hand for the first few days after you arrive.
  
• Getting your SIM card and internet sorted
  In Bali, you can get fast mobile internet at a reasonable price. On our website, we’ll show you which providers are worth considering and how to get online straight away.
  
• Plan your journey and check-in
  Arrange your airport transfer and check-in at your accommodation with the landlord in advance. Most accommodation providers offer an airport transfer for a fee.

• Collect/pick up your scooter
  In Bali, the scooter is usually the main way to get around, especially outside the city centre. Many providers will deliver the scooter to your accommodation on request. We’ll explain what you need to bear in mind in the ‘Life in Bali’ section.
  
• On-site guidance
  Get to know your local area and find beaches, supermarkets, cafés, gyms, laundrettes and key places in your neighbourhood.
  
• Building a community
  The first few weeks often set the tone for the rest of your term. Get to know other students and make the most of this time to make new friends.
  
• Arrive and enjoy 😄
