Studying in Bali

Universities, study programmes, recognition and costs – here’s an overview to help you plan your semester abroad in Bali.

A semester abroad in Bali combines study, international experience and life on one of the world’s most popular islands. At the same time, many questions arise: Which university is right for me? What programmes are available? Will my credits be recognised? And how much does it all cost?

Here’s an overview – explained simply and step by step.

What matters

Why choose Bali for a semester abroad?

English-language programmes, international students, a relatively low cost of living and the combination of studying and the Bali lifestyle make the island one of the most popular destinations for a semester abroad.

Which universities are there?

Depending on the field of study and the provider, different universities may be suitable. Particularly popular are Udayana University in Jimbaran and universities such as Undiknas or Warmadewa.

What courses are available?

Business Studies, Management, Marketing, Tourism, International Business, Medicine, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering, Art, Sport and much more, depending on the provider.

Recognition at your home university

Many German universities recognise credits earned abroad through learning agreements or ECTS. It is important to check with your examinations office or international office in advance to ensure recognition.

Semester dates & planning

Most programmes start in the spring or autumn. Ideally, allow 4–6 months’ lead time for your application, learning agreement, accommodation and flights.

Costs of studying

Tuition fees often range from around €1,800 to €2,500 per semester, depending on the provider and programme. Good news: tuition fees can be covered in full through the BAföG scheme for studying abroad.
