Auslandssemester Bali

Requirements

Requirements for your semester in Bali

Visa, insurance, recognition, budget. The checklist to help you start planning in a structured way.

A semester abroad requires a bit of bureaucracy - but less than you might think. Here is an overview of the most important points. Plan at least 3 months in advance, then things will run smoothly.

Your checklist

Visa

For one semester (4 months) you usually need a social visa or student visa. The application goes through the Indonesian consulate or a visa agent. We recommend Bali-visum.de. Here you can easily apply for your visa online. The cost of a 4-month student visa is currently €295. Alternatively, you can also use a tourist visa, which is valid for a maximum of 60 days. After the 60 days have expired, you must leave Indonesia once and can then apply again. If you are planning to leave the country during the semester anyway, this is worth considering. Please note, however, that it is not officially permitted, even though it is often common practice.

Insurance

International health insurance with repatriation is compulsory. Studiosus, HanseMerkur, DR-WALTER - have a look at several providers. The costs for 4 months are around €40-60 per month.

Learning Agreement

Clarify which courses will be recognised with your study abroad representative before you start. As a rule, you can simply send the course descriptions of your study programme in Bali to your professors and obtain written confirmation that your courses will be recognised. Otherwise the courses will not count towards your degree. If you are entitled to Auslandsbafög, this is particularly relevant, as a minimum number of recognised courses must be proven.

Budget

Plan to spend around €800-1,500 per month on site - depending on accommodation, lifestyle and region. Be sure to check your funding options (e.g. Auslandsbafög, DAAD scholarships etc.)
