Hospitals

At the beginning of the semester you get a Din A4 copy distributed with all the important addresses and among other things, a hospital is recommended. As there is not only one hospital in Bali, I would like to present a few here.

Prima Medika Hospital

Prima Medika is a hospital recommended by Prof. Passon. I was in the hospital for a few days, because a friend of mine had a severe bacterial infection. It is located in Denpasar near the roundabout on the way from Seminyak to the university.

A superior room costs 350.000 Rp. / day and a VIP room costs 450.000 Rp. / day. There is no real difference between the two rooms. The VIP room has a slightly larger TV and a fridge. Besides that, both have two single beds (for patient and partner) of the same size.

Experience report
The nurses are very friendly and helpful. What disturbed me, however, is that there was no towel in the bathroom and it was also not possible for the sisters in the evening to get a towel. Therefore, I could not shower. The next day, however, towels were available again. The drinking glasses had a dark edge on the floor, so they were either very old or not thoroughly cleaned.

SOS Hospital

A friend of mine is working in a 4 star hotel in Bali and recommended this hospital to me. All guests of the hotel who have health problems are treated there. First of all, the good organization and cleanliness of this hospital surprised me. Before I could go into the hospital, I had to wash my hands with soap. The doctors speak excellent English and are very competent. I was quickly helped and with the right medicine I was recovered after 2 days.

BIMC Hospital

The BIMC Hospital is the most expensive of the three listed hospitals in Bali. It is relatively popular with expatriates. The quality seems above average and that explains the higher price. One night here costs around 500 USD and upwards. However, if you are privately insured and have enough financial resources to make this possible, you will probably get the best service here.

Conclusion

In general, all hospitals do a good job if it does not concern bad illnesses that require surgery. The staff of the Prima Medika are super nice, but it will not help you if the doctors make wrong diagnoses. Unfortunately, this is happening in all hospitals. The above listed hospital has the cheapest price. The SOS International Clinic is slightly more expensive, but offers top service and is very clean. The BIMC Hospital, together with the Silioam Hospital, is one of the hospitals with a western standard. In price terms, the BIMC is slightly more expensive than the Siliom Hospital. It is important to know that the specialists in Bali are all freelancers, i.e. they work for all hospitals. That is why it is also difficult to say which hospital is the best. Most of the specialists still have a private practice after the end of the work day.
Note: If you have a serious injury or condition that requires surgery, it is best to fly to Singapore and go to Mount Elizabeth or Gleneagles hospitals. Both are not exactly cheap and you have to pay a deposit of 2.000 Singapore dollars on arrival. But the performance is synonymous. Alternatively, you can fly to Surabaya, the second largest Indonesian city. There is the Premier Hospital. This hospital has excellent doctors. The general hospital in Singapore has a good reputation and the medical care in Jakarta is also very good.
